Appeal success in Wallingford – Portcullis Club

After a prolonged period the appeal submitted in 2018 on behalf of Winslade Investments (Wallingford) in respect of its proposed conversion of the former Portcullis Social Club on Goldsmiths Lane has been successful, with an Inspector’s decision dated 20 April 2020. The Inspector confirmed that the development of fourteen dwellings (houses and flats) would not have a harmful impact upon the convenience and safety of people using the Lane or local road network, despite it having no on-site car parking provision at all. The Inspector also agreed that the other aspects of the scheme which had been somewhat controversial were all acceptable, including removal of old buildings – provided that the latter would be recorded for posterity.
