March 2025 Appeal Success – West Oxfordshire

JPPC have successfully persuaded a Planning Inspector of the merits of a further single storey extension to a converted barn in West Oxfordshire. The extension took the form of a small summer room which would have replaced an existing porch.

 The Local Planning Authority contended that the extension would have obscured the simple, linear form of the traditional buildings which once formed part of a larger farmstead before their conversion around 30 years ago. Typically, historic farm buildings within the District have a very linear form, which the Council is keen to protect.

 The Planning Inspector agreed with the argument that we advanced that the simple form of the building would be unaffected by the proposed works and would remain legible, whilst the chosen materials would be sympathetic to the host building. On this basis, the proposed extension was considered not to be harmful to the character and appearance of the building and the Planning Appeal was allowed.
