March 2026 – Outline planning permission on the edge of Great Milton, South Oxfordshire

Outline planning permission has been given for a family home on a small parcel of undeveloped land in the Oxford Green Belt, on the edge of Great Milton, South Oxfordshire.

The site lies to the north of the small settlement, outside of the built confines of the village and in of the Oxford Green Belt where development is (usually) strictly controlled. JPPC (Cait Taylor) successfully made the case that the land fell within the definition of central government’s “Grey Belt” designation, introduced to the National Planning Policy Framework in 2024 and secured planning permission for a private client.

In determining the application SODC agreed that although it would not be an infill location, the principle of new housing development on this outlying site met the NPPF tests for appropriate development in grey belt terms, finding that the proposed scheme would contribute to an identified unmet need for housing in a sustainable location and would not “fundamentally undermine the purposes (taken together) of the remaining Green Belt across the area of the Plan”.
