Planning Permission Granted for Oxford Residential Development

Permission has been granted for a development of three townhouses and six flats in East Oxford.

National planning policy seeks to prevent local authorities from seeking planning contributions from residential developments which are not considered major developments. Although the Council local development plan sets out a policy which seeks a financial contribution towards affordable housing elsewhere in the City on sites of between 4 and 9 dwellings, following recent appeal decisions elsewhere in Oxford (as well as initial comments raised by the Inspectors examining Oxford’s emerging Local Plan 2036), the Council must defer to national planning policy and the guidance which accompanies it. Within the present policy context, Oxford City Council no longer seeks affordable housing contributions from residential developments on sites with capacity for between four and nine homes (where the site is no greater than 0.5ha in size).
