JPPC helped to secure planning permission for the construction of a new Secondary School in the green belt off the Marston Ferry Road in Oxford along with a new purpose-built building for Meadowbrook College, a school facility for pupils with individual needs. When complete, the scheme will provide a fit-for-purpose replacement facility for Meadowbrook, whilst also providing a much needed new 1,260 place state-funded secondary school (with sixth form) for Oxford City- the County’s newest secondary school which is to be known as The Swan School. With the development team, JPPC were involved in extensive public and Local Authority engagement and successfully navigated the planning application through the complex legislative and design process, notwithstanding the controversial nature of the application and secured an outstanding result for the Department for Education and the River Learning Trust which will operate the school. In particular the design had to negotiate the Oxford Design Review Panel process which is a challenging peer review process. We also helped to achieve consent for temporary facilities on nearby land so that the school could ‘open’ as a new school prior to the new build school opening its doors.
